A handsome Georgian brass candlestick, with an elegant, restrained form typical of the late 18th to early 19th century.
The candlestick features a tall, slender columnar stem, subtly decorated with turned bands and moulded collars, rising to a broad candle socket with a gently flared rim. The cylindrical stem incorporates its original sliding candle-ejector mechanism. As the candle burned down, the mechanism could be pushed upwards to raise the remaining candle within the socket, making this an ingenious and practical piece of Georgian domestic lighting.
