An exquisite mid-19th Century Victorian credenza of superb quality, richly ebonised and beautifully inlaid with intricate marquetry and gilt detailing.  It was made by Hewetson & Thexton, with a site at 204 Tottenham Court Road between 1839 and 1910 who were considered some of the finest cabinet makers of the day. The inside of the central door has their plaque.  

The central door features a finely executed oval panel of burr walnut, framed by scrolling foliate designs and satinwood stringing, while the flanking glazed cabinets offer elegant display space for treasured pieces.  

The piece stands on a plinth base with turned feet and retains its original polished finish, which has developed a deep, lustrous patina over time.  A fine example of Victorian craftsmanship, marrying opulence with balance and restraint.
