A handsome late Victorian oak bookcase / cabinet, dating from the 1930s. Crafted in solid oak with rich golden-brown figuring throughout, this elegant piece features a pair of glazed upper doors with attractive arched glazing bars enclosing adjustable shelving, ideal for displaying books, ceramics or decorative objects. The lower section is fitted with a pair of panelled cupboard doors providing useful concealed storage. There is a sliver plate on the front indicating that this was a Wedding Gift to Miss Dorothy Hannley of Bath in 1935, making this quite the romantic piece! 

Decorative details include bead moulding to the uprights, dentil moulding beneath the cornice and finely carved vertical fretwork to the frieze, all reflecting the quality craftsmanship of the period. Raised on turned front feet, the cabinet offers a pleasing balance of display and storage while retaining a relatively compact footprint.
