This is as old as the hills themselves. Well, not quite!  It dates from 1600s England. From the death of Elizabeth 1st, through the Gunpowder Plot to the Civil Wars, the Great Plague, the Fire of London, William Shakespeare writing plays and the rise of Oliver Cromwell, strict puritan laws and a Restoration in 1660 which saw Charles II return to the throne from exile in France and brought forks to the table for the first time! A little bit of history and trivia!! 
What is truly amazing is that this box has lived from that time until now. Sometimes the age of a piece is enough to elicit delight. But in this case the case itself is charming. 
It was most likely a Sword Box or could have been used to store valuables (ironically many of the nobility held their silver In cutlery!). In side there’s a candle box to view your treasures by night. 
A pair of W’s has been etched into the front. Who was WW?
