This is an antique, brass-bound Campaign Trunk or Chest.  A classic example of campaign furniture, designed to be portable for use by military officers or travellers during the 19th century.  It features a rosewood construction with varnished finish.  The trunk is reinforced with brass banding on the edges and corners to protect it during transport.  The original brass lock escutcheon is visible on the front and has a the key to work the lock. There are brass handles on the side for portage. These days it's unlikely Ryan Air will accept this as hand luggage but chests like this make great lamp tables, bedside tables or a coffee table.
