An elegant early 20th-century Art Nouveau silver-plated centrepiece. Surmounted by a large clear glass bowl that flares with deep radiating flutes and a gently scalloped edge, giving it the appearance of an opening flower.
The sculptural stand is tall with a tapering central stem rising organically from the spreading base, framed by slender supports that sweep upwards. Stylised leaves, scrolling tendrils and floral motifs decorate the junctions and feet, characteristic of the naturalistic vocabulary of the Art Nouveau period.
Around the base is a finely worked repeating border of intertwined scrolls and small flowerheads. Each projecting foot is elaborately modelled, including an oval, shield-like cartouche surrounded by beadwork, flowers and flowing foliate ornament. Viewed through the glass bowl, the centre reveals a particularly attractive circular floral rosette, composed of radiating stylised leaves and curling tendrils.
